PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
