Her Royal Highness's Yearly Christmas Carol Concert Spotlights Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The theme of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
