Blues Boss Maresca Dismisses Man City Links as '100%' Gossip
Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca has labelled fresh talk linking him with a move to Manchester City as "100% speculation".
The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant in Manchester, addressed the ongoing rumours surrounding his next move.
Maresca, appointed Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024, is under contract running through the end of the decade, with a potential extra year available.
"It doesn't bother me at all because I know that is completely unfounded," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is no time for these kind of things."
He went on to explain, "First of all, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my focus, I said many times, is solely on this club and I'm honoured to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was connected to Juventus in Italy. So I ignore it because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, currently sitting in fourth position in the Premier League, are set to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a lunchtime fixture.
Strain After Recent Remarks
Maresca's most recent comments come in the wake of he described a recent two-day spell as his most difficult since joining Chelsea.
Those original remarks had fueled widespread talk of a possible rift between the coach and the club's key decision-makers.
When pressed if he had since spoken with the club's leadership, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we speak about various topics. But about the post-Everton media session, no."
The Italian however affirmed he would definitely remain at the club next season and called on supporters to "continue to support the team".
In more positive news, Maresca revealed that injured attackers Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could return sooner than expected, possibly available for a match against Aston Villa later this month.
Analysis: Unresolved Tension
The perceived strain between Maresca and the club's hierarchy remains as an unhealed issue that still create unease.
While there has been no further escalation of the situation publicly, there has equally been no resolution offered, creating the disagreement unresolved.
The mood during these press conferences has become notably strained, raising concerns it could undermine what has up to now been a promising beginning to the campaign.
Chelsea's on-field position is strong: they are in the top four in the league, have qualified for the League Cup last four, and can achieve a favourable Champions League position with strong performances in their remaining games.
The prevailing uncertainty is whether this off-field dynamic might begin to affect a team that was beginning to appear settled.
